Easter is upon us already, and you may be off on a holiday. Who is taking care of the fur-babies while you are away? There are 2 things you should do before you leave.

At the risk of adding more tasks to your to-do list, we suggest you contact us by telephone (3284 5133), or email ( peninsulavet@gmail.com ) and tell us who it is you have trusted your pets with. If anything happens while you are away, then we have your permission to discuss details with the carer. There is an example message you could use at the end of this article.

Your information is bound by client confidentiality laws, and we have a duty to protect anything held within our files. Therefore, for example, if a boarding kennel phones us to find out when your dog’s heartworm prevention is due, we are unable to provide that information without your permission. It’s the same if your parents, friends, or children are looking after your pet.

The second thing to do, is to make sure you know when all vaccinations and heartworm prevention is due. You should have written evidence of the last vaccination, with a veterinarian’s signature, and the stickers from the vaccine vial attached.

Some of our clients have been caught out by the strict policies that kennels follow regarding vaccinations. Always talk to them before you turn up on the day, just to make sure. Due to the nature of vaccines, if your pet is injected the day before entering boarding kennels, he/she won’t necessarily be protected for another 14 days, so they need to have had their booster at least 2 weeks before you leave on holidays. As well as that, some kennels won’t accept pets that are up to date, but the due date is within the next 2 weeks.

If you have any questions or concerns, please ask us, on 3284 5133.

We are open normal hours 9am to 6pm Monday 26th March to Thursday 29th March.

We are CLOSED over the Easter break, and will not be available until Tuesday 3rd April.

Have a safe and happy Easter!
